PORT HUENEME : Park Building to Get Plastic Windows

Share

In an effort to stop vandalism at a Port Hueneme park, the City Council has agreed to spend more than $7,000 to replace breakable glass windows with plastic at the park’s recreation building.

Since late August, several of the windows of a building at the Walter B. Moranda Park, situated off Hueneme Road, have been smashed and the city has spent more than $1,400 replacing them.

But every time the windows were replaced, they were broken again. So the city decided to use plastic windows similar to those at several local schools, said Lisa Donley, the city’s manager for recreation and community services.

“We need to take some drastic measures. It costs more money than we want to spend, but we have no choice,” Donley said. “From time to time we have had vandalism, but not as damaging and expensive as this time.”

Although no one was caught, police believe the window vandals also tag the area with graffiti, Donley said.
