SAN CLEMENTE : Hotel to Be Converted Into Home for Seniors
The Planning Commission has approved converting a former Ramada Inn into a home for senior citizens.
The vote this week allows Birtcher Senior Properties to convert the former 110-unit hotel on a 3.6-acre site at 35 Calle de Industrias into a 75-unit home for senior citizens. The City Council must still approve an amendment to the city zoning code before the project can go forward.
“It’s a shame the hotel was not able to succeed, but I think everybody thought this is a real good use for the site,” said Commissioner Steve Apodaca, who was recently elected to the council and will change seats on Dec. 7.
A Birtcher spokesman told the commission that the hotel would be gutted and rebuilt and that prices for the new units would start at $900 a month and go up.
