The Battle for No. 1 Being Fought on Paper
Penn State’s fourth-quarter comeback last Saturday not only earned it a victory over Illinois, it probably ensured a national championship. How? Miami tops undefeated Nebraska in the Orange Bowl and Florida State edges undefeated Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, leaving Penn State as the only remaining undefeated and untied team. And who ever heard of a duck beating a lion?

As an attorney, allow me to present the evidence in support of ranking Nebraska No. 2 in the nation: The Cornhuskers are 10-0, they limited then-undefeated Kansas State to six points, they shut out mighty Colorado for a half and then gave up only seven points, all of this “without a quarterback.”
Something tells me this is a losing argument.
