People Coordinated Services, a nonprofit community service agency, has opened a new center that offers day care for adults suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

The Alzheimer’s Adult Day Care and Resource Center at 4703 S. Crenshaw Blvd. offers a range of services that include care-giver and family education and training; social activities; arts and crafts; independent living skills; self-esteem building and grooming skills development, and lunch and snacks. Charges for all services are based on a sliding scale.

Center officials said that the aim of the Alzheimer’s program is to encourage the individuals to socialize and to remain as independent as possible, as well as to provide care-givers with education, support and relief from the demands of round-the-clock care.
