Discounts to Plant Your Poles In
We continue the roundup of discounts for seniors at U.S. ski resorts.
Michigan:
* Crystal Mountain Resort, Thompsonville, has a Silver Streak program for those over 55. Free ID card valid for half-price lift rates every day, cross-country trails, rental equipment and group lessons plus 10% discount on midweek lodging and package plans. Call (800) 968-7686. * Shanty Creek Resort, Bellaire. It also has a Silver Streak week, Jan. 23-27, for skiers over 55, who will receive free lift tickets and cross-country trail passes. Utah:
* Robert Redford’s Sundance Resort, Sundance. Those over age 65 ski free all day (regular all-day rates: $28). Grandchildren under age 12 ski free. For information and brochures, call (800) 892-1600.
Nevada:
* Heavenly Lake Tahoe, Stateline. Skiers over age 65 get an all-day senior lift ticket for $18, a savings of $24. A half-day senior ticket is $12, good from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Senior lift tickets are good any day of the season, including holidays and weekends. Heavenly is also offering two three-day Super Senior/50+ Skier workshops Feb. 3-5 and March 13-17. Workshops include breakfast and lunch daily plus lessons, a personal analysis, videotaping and group photos. Workshop price is $299. For brochure and information, call (800) 243-2836.
North Carolina:
The Blue Ridge and Great Smoky Mountains provide plenty of ski spots. Here are a sampling:
* Appalachian Ski Mountain, Blowing Rock. Rates vary. The regular price for a ticket for two full weekdays is $36, $22 for those over age 60. Weekends or holidays (two days), which are regularly $52, are $34 for seniors. Tickets may be purchased for up to five days. For brochures and information, call (800) 322-2373.
* Cataloochee Ski Area, Maggie Valley. In the Great Smokies. Free ski-lift tickets for anyone over age 65 on weekdays or weekends without restrictions throughout the season. Regular adult rates are $29. For a brochure or information, call (800) 768-0285.
