ANAHEIM : Family to Host Free Thanksgiving Feast

Share

The Garcia family plans to serve free Thanksgiving dinners to thousands of people, but they have only collected about 10 turkeys to cook.

They hope to get at least 500 turkeys by Wednesday. And, if they do not have enough, Frank Garcia said he will go out and buy the birds himself the next morning.

“I don’t want any person, whether homeless, poor or just lonely, to go without Thanksgiving dinner,” said Garcia, 50, co-owner of La Casa Garcia Restaurant.

His family is hosting the restaurant’s seventh annual dinner. “I don’t care if you’re a millionaire. If you’re lonely, you’re welcome here, too,” he said.

About 3,000 people came the first year. That number quadrupled last year and could top 15,000 this year, Garcia said.

He said he will provide live music and special treats for children.

About 500 people have already volunteered to help cook and serve the meals, but donations of food, including potatoes, rolls and pastries, are short, Garcia said.

Anyone interested in donating food is asked to take it to the restaurant, 531 W. Chapman Ave.
