CAMARILLO : Physician to Stand Trial in Feud Pranks

Share

A Ventura County judge on Monday ordered a physician to stand trial on charges that he ordered a refrigerator in the name of a Camarillo attorney he has a grudge against and sent it to her office.

In July, the county grand jury indicted Dr. Reynaldo Fong on seven criminal counts for ordering thousands of magazine subscriptions in the name of the attorney, Theresa McConville.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Richard E. Simon said Fong of Salinas faces arraignment Dec. 6 on charges of false personation, theft and credit-card fraud.

In the earlier indictment, he was charged with seven counts of false personation in connection with allegedly sending the magazine subscriptions.

Fong, 44, became angry at McConville about 10 years ago because she worked at a law firm that reported him to the state Board of Medical Quality Assurance. Fong had been fired from Santa Paula Hospital for double billing insurance companies, prosecutors said, and in retaliation referred medical malpractice suits from the hospital to various law firms. McConville’s law firm refused to take his cases and reported him to the state agency.

After the indictment, he ordered the refrigerator in the attorney’s name and sent it to her office Aug. 9, Simon said.

“He just keeps doing it,” the prosecutor said. “I’ll probably be getting magazines when this case is over.”
