Salsa Postpones Series Because of Prop. 187
The Salsa announced Monday that it is postponing its “United We Are” international soccer series, which matched the Salsa against teams from the Mexican First Division.
Because of Proposition 187, the voter-approved initiative that would cut off services to undocumented immigrants, the Mexican Soccer Federation council voted over the weekend not to allow its teams to play in California, with the exception of games with the Salsa.
But the Salsa and the council agreed to halt the series anyway. The next scheduled game was Wednesday against Atlis at Cal State Fullerton.
“The Mexican Federation has treated us like a partner in allowing us to continue to play in California,” Salsa owner William De La Pena said. “We were asked to postpone the series and we are going to cooperate.”
Refunds can be obtained by calling the Salsa office starting Monday. Or tickets may be used as two-for-one to any of the Salsa’s next 16 games.
