Japanese Car Makers Report Mixed Results for October: Toyota Motor Corp. said its domestic vehicle production rose from a year earlier to 311,141 in October, marking the third monthly year-on-year gain. Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. said domestic production fell from a year earlier to 131,737 vehicles, marking the 28th straight year-on-year decline. Overall domestic vehicle sales in the first 18 days of November rose 16% from a year earlier, with Toyota up 12.4%, Nissan up 14.3%, Honda up 1.6% and Fuji Heavy up 32.2%, industry sources said. Toyota’s vehicle exports in October rose 23% year-on-year to 132,425, the fifth successive annual increase. The rise was attributed to poor exports to Europe last year, after the ceiling on Japan’s 1993 exports to the European Community was lowered to 980,000. Nissan’s October exports fell 6.1% year-on-year to 50,518 vehicles, the third straight year-on-year decline, caused by a poor demand in Europe.
