LONG BEACH : Fees for False Alarms at Businesses Are Cut
- Share via
The City Council has decided to reduce the maximum charge for false burglary alarms at local businesses during a six-month trial period.
The city was charging $300 for each false alarm after the fourth one in a year, but the council agreed to review the ordinance in September after business operators complained that the penalty was too high. Surveys showed that Long Beach’s false-alarm fees have been higher than those of most other cities.
Under the new fee schedule, businesses will be charged $50 for the third false alarm, $75 for the fourth alarm, and $125 for every false alarm after that during the year.
Councilman Jeffrey A. Kellogg said the new schedule is designed to encourage merchants to fix faulty burglar alarm systems as soon as possible.
The new fees will be reviewed in June.
