GLENDALE : Galleria Lauded for Crime Prevention

Share

The Glendale City Council honored the Glendale Galleria this week for crime prevention programs.

The mall, its private security force and the Glendale Police Department were honored with a proclamation by the City Council for maintaining a low crime rate at the mall and for sponsoring such crime prevention efforts as a child fingerprinting program, the Glendale Youth Boxing Program and police recruitment.

“Crime prevention at the Galleria has long been a joint effort with the Glendale Police Department,” said Cindy Chong, the mall’s general manager. “We have had a substation since the mall opened. It was one of the first police substations to be included in a shopping mall.”

She said the mall’s security force operates 24 hours a day and its employees, including members of the bike patrol, receive three months’ training.

The city’s proclamation also honored the mall’s contribution to the local economy. The mall has traditionally been the city’s No. 1 or No. 2 generator of sales tax revenue, rivaled only by the combined sales of local automobile dealers.
