A power outage Friday night blacked out about 1,600 Department of Water and Power customers in the west San Fernando Valley, DWP officials said.

The outage first cut off power at 6:25 p.m. Service was restored, but the power failed again soon afterward and stayed off for several hours, said DWP spokeswoman Dorothy Jensen.

She said DWP workers were trying to determine the cause of the outage Friday night.

No hospitals or other large public facilities were affected, Jensen said.

The outage was centered in two areas of Northridge and Chatsworth: near the intersection of Tulsa Street and Baton Rouge Avenue, and around the corner of Devonshire Street and Corbin Avenue, Jensen said.
