EAST LOS ANGELES : Police Seek More Civilian Volunteers

Share

The Police Department’s Hollenbeck Division substation once again needs civilian volunteers for desk jobs and other duties to free up more officers to patrol the streets.

Volunteers must take four Saturday classes on the organization of the LAPD, introduction to criminal law and other facets of police work.

Several people have already signed up for training, but more are needed for the holiday season, said Officer Bob Garcia, who oversees the volunteer program.

Garcia said he is looking for “high-energy” volunteers who would take reports from people who walk into the station; help investigators follow up on reports; perform clerical duties; respond to domestic violence cases as part of a special unit and help with relocation, referrals and moral support.

For information, call Garcia at (213) 485-2949 or pick up an application from the Hollenbeck Division substation, 2111 E. 1st St.
