SIMI VALLEY : Council to Allow Ads on Bus Stop Benches

Share

Hoping to maintain bus service and keep fares from skyrocketing, the Simi Valley City Council has agreed to alter its sign ordinance to allow advertising on bus stop benches.

The city hopes to raise about $15,000 a year with the advertising.

In August, the council increased fares from 75 cents to $1, following an increase in operating costs and a drop in revenue of as much as 5% on some routes.

The cost to run the four Simi Valley Transit bus lines, which carried 400,000 riders last year, will be an estimated $1.6 million next year. Operating expenses are expected to increase by $83,000 this year, the result of rising maintenance, fuel and salary costs.
