Four-Star Films : ‘The African Queen’

Share

This landmark 1951 John Huston adventure-romance, adapted by film critic James Agee and Huston from C.S. Forester’s novel, unforgettably teamed Humphrey Bogart as a seedy drunk and Katharine Hepburn as a missionary’s starchy spinster sister. They are thrown together as they flee, via boat, the Germans in Africa during World War I. Bogart won an Oscar for his efforts and Hepburn received from Huston the movies’ most famous directorial advice when he suggested that, in playing her role, she think of Eleanor Roosevelt (TBS, Wednesday at 10:05 a.m.).
