GARDEN GROVE : Permit for Trade School Extended

Share

The City Council last week granted Jewelry Tech Institute an additional two years to operate a trade school at the Hoover Street Center.

School officials requested the longer permit to coincide with the five-year lease of two buildings at the business center, where the school is moving from its present location a block away on Garden Grove Boulevard.

In September, the Planning Commission granted the school, which offers courses in jewelry design and English to mostly Vietnamese students, a three-year permit.

Afy Harraf, the school’s director of operations, said the school is transferring from its campus for the past 15 years at Western Avenue to the larger facilities at Hoover Street Center. The school has about 140 students, she said.

Harraf said the school likely would move in January.

The council last week also granted a request for a one-way entrance to the school from Garden Grove Boulevard and exits only onto Hoover Street.
