For the first time in his NFL career, Vinny Testaverde is playing games that mean something.

“I’m having as much fun with this as I can. Hopefully the rest of the team and the rest of the city will enjoy it along with me,” Testaverde said Sunday after he returned to the starting lineup and directed the Cleveland Browns past the Houston Oilers, 34-10.

Playing a full game for the first time in six weeks, Testaverde committed two turnovers in Houston territory but also threw two touchdown passes, helping the Browns (9-3) send the Oilers (1-11) to their eighth consecutive loss. The Oilers are 0-2 since Jeff Fisher moved up from defensive coordinator to replace Jack Pardee.

Leroy Hoard made Testaverde’s return easier, running 23 times for 103 yards and two touchdowns.

Testaverde is now ensured of being on a winning team for the first time in his eight seasons with Tampa Bay and Cleveland.

Mark Rypien had started the previous three games after Testaverde was knocked out of the final two games in October because of concussions. Testaverde worked briefly in relief in a loss at Kansas City last week.

On Sunday, he was intercepted by Darryll Lewis in the end zone in the first quarter, was nearly intercepted at least two other times, and fumbled the ball away when he was sacked by Lamar Lathon in the third quarter.

But Testaverde, who completed 15 of 28 passes for 199 yards, was on target when he had to be. He threw a one-yard touchdown pass to Frank Hartley early in the second quarter, and an 11-yarder to Brian Kinchen later in the quarter.
