The City Council gave 22 property managers “gold seal” awards as part of its continuing effort to recognize those who maintain exemplary housing standards.

Those recognized at last week’s meeting will be exempted from city rental unit inspection fees for the next three years as a reward for their work to ensure safe and attractive apartments, according to a staff report to the council.

The ceremony was part of the Proactive Rental Enforcement Program, which was adopted in 1992.

To qualify for an award, managers must pass a three-part test during which city officials evaluate their management practices, tenant screening, housing rules and other policies. The properties must be maintained in excellent condition inside and out.

Mayor Daniel H. Young praised and congratulated the group during the meeting. He said their examples should encourage others to improve their housing.

“These are people who are true professionals,” he said. “They take great pride in their work and I’m glad that we have this many participants.”
