LAGUNA HILLS : Power Failure Affects More Than 100 Users

Failure of a faulty underground cable on Paseo de Valencia, south of El Toro Road, left more than 100 Southern California Edison customers without power Monday morning.

The outage occurred at 5:45 a.m. and affected areas north of Moulton Parkway, south of Interstate 5, east of Avenida Sevilla and west of Los Alisos Boulevard, said Chriss Brown, operations analyst in the utility’s Orange County region.

Saddleback Memorial Medical Center was among the places affected by the outage. The moment power went out, emergency generators at the hospital on Health Center Drive began operating.

While the administrative office buildings had limited power, there was little effect on the patients, said Jeniffer Lefebvre, a spokeswoman for the hospital.

By 9 a.m., “everything was back to normal,” she said.

Sheriff’s deputies were also called to direct traffic while signal lights were not working, but deputies said the outage did not cause any major delays.

A crew from the electric company isolated the problem in less than an hour and had service back to all customers about 8:30 a.m., Brown said.
