Mayor Marcia Rudolph, who fell short in the Nov. 8 election, on Monday officially asked for a recount.

Rudolph, a member of the young city’s charter City Council seated in 1991, finished fourth in the balloting of 12 candidates for three open seats on the council behind Richard T. Dixon, Peter Herzog and Kathryn McCullough. Rudolph finished 268 votes behind McCullough.

In her request made in writing to City Clerk Jeri Stately, Rudolph asked that the ballots be recounted in reverse order from the way they were counted Nov. 8. She also asked that the recount be done by computer.

Rudolph also indicated that she would designate someone to represent her during the entire recount process.

Rudolph will also have to pay for the recount, which will cost at least $358 a day, Stately said.
