PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Hostetler Undergoes Neurological Tests

Share

Quarterback Jeff Hostetler had a series of neurological tests to determine the cause of the blurred vision and the migraine headache that forced him out of Sunday’s 21-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers at the Coliseum.

No immediate results of the tests were available.

Hostetler first experienced problems Sunday after getting hit in the head by Steeler linebacker Chad Brown as Hostetler dove for a first down late in the first half.

The Raider quarterback stayed in the game and got hit hard twice more on the same series. He reported seeing flashing lights.

At that point, Coach Art Shell pulled Hostetler out, later reinserting him in the fourth quarter when Hostetler assured his coach he was all right. Hostetler lasted one series, during which he was sacked twice.

After the game, he said that he still didn’t feel well.

“He was a little woozy,” Shell said. “He complained to me about a migraine. And he’s had some problems with migraines before.”

Hostetler was knocked out of the Green Bay game last year because of a concussion.

He’ll have an extra day to recover this week because the Raiders don’t play until Monday night, when they’ll face the Chargers in San Diego.

Shell said he expects center Don Mosebar to practice this week. Mosebar, who suffered a twisted ankle the week before, had to come out of Sunday’s game in the third quarter. Mosebar has started 86 consecutive games for the Raiders. . . . Cornerback Lionel Washington, who has sat out two games because of a bruised calf muscle, expects to return to practice this week.
