COVINA : Supervisors Vote to Seek Denial of Parole for Rapist
Responding to protests from Covina residents, the County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to ask state officials to deny parole for so-called “pillowcase rapist” Reginald Donald Muldrew.
Supervisor Yvonne Brathwaite Burke commended the Covina residents who have been protesting Muldrew’s parole. State corrections officials say only that he will be paroled somewhere in Southern California on Sunday. However, Covina city officials say the state has told them he will be paroled in Covina.
“This rapist really should not be released,” Burke said. “He should really serve out his sentence.”
Protesters have collected 19,000 signatures in an effort to persuade corrections officials not to release Muldrew. A corrections spokeswoman has said repeatedly that officials’ hands are tied.
Under the state’s determinate sentencing law, Muldrew, who has been in prison 15 years, must be released unless he fails a psychological evaluation.
