Ethics Panel Defers Decision on Gingrich
The House Ethics Committee decided Tuesday to defer until the next Congress the question of how to proceed on a complaint filed by a political rival against Rep. Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.), who is expected to become Speaker in January.
The panel’s decision was announced after a three-hour, closed-door meeting by Reps. Jim McDermott (D-Wash.), the panel chairman, and Fred Grandy of Iowa, the ranking GOP member.
“There was some discussion as to whether or not we had sufficient information to decide the case,” McDermott said.
