Rap Artist in Shooting Leaves Hospital
Rapper Tupac Shakur checked himself out of Bellevue Hospital Center on Wednesday night, just hours after surgery for five gunshot wounds, a hospital administrator said. He left “against medical advice,” said Bellevue administrator Larry Dugan.
Shakur, 23, was shot in the right thigh, left hand, scrotum and twice in the head, in what police said appeared to have been a robbery attempt early Wednesday morning. The gunmen took $40,000 worth of jewelry from Shakur but left his diamond-encrusted Rolex watch on his wrist.
Police said Wednesday that they believed the incident was a robbery but had not ruled out the possibility that Shakur was set up to be killed.
” . . . You can’t discount the possibility that he was the intended target,” said John Miller, deputy commissioner for public information.
Meanwhile, a State Supreme Court jury deliberating sexual assault charges against Shakur in Manhattan continued without being told of the shooting.
