Amin David, chairman of Los Amigos of Orange County, will be named Man of the Year this month because of his activism as a Latino advocate.

The Anaheim chapter of the League of United Latin American Citizens will honor David at an awards banquet Dec. 9 at the Grand Hotel, 7 Freedman Way in Anaheim.

David is a longtime member of LULAC and numerous other Latino organizations, in which he helps promote awareness of Latino issues. He also serves as chairman of the Orange County Housing Corp., which provides resources for low-income families to buy homes. In addition, David serves on the Disneyland Community Service Award Committee, in which he helps select community activists to honor.

“I’m just amazed at the number of people who come to Amin for everything and anything they need, whether it’s help on a fund-raiser or help with problems with police. People are there for Amin to help and he reaches out and helps them,” said Rose Jurado, president of the LULAC chapter. “Someone like that, you have to show some kind of appreciation for.”

David said he was glad the banquet in his honor would be used to raise money for scholarships.

“I’m very ill-at-ease to receive this award because it’s with a tremendous degree of fulfillment that one does what one thinks has to be done,” he said about his work.

The LULAC chapter has given the honor the past four years to men for their dedication to the Latino community. Other LULAC chapters in the county also honor people for their work. Santa Ana’s chapter, for example, names a Woman of the Year and the Irvine chapter names an Educator of the Year.

The public is invited to the banquet, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person. To reserve seats, call Jurado at (714) 630-1678.
