Modest Proposal : Bill Immigrants and Country of Origin for U.S. Services

Here’s a solution to the nation’s immigration problem. Let those who travel to America cross at the proper border patrol locations. Issue the individual immigrant a numbered identification card with photo and linked to a computerized national immigration pool and census. This card would be used for any and all services provided to the individual. The services will then be signed for and recorded as a debt to the individual.

As the person contributes to the economy, his or her debt would be reduced according to a prescribed table of payment and taxes paid by the individual or the employer. Any unpaid debt would be billed to the immigrant’s country of origin. Allied countries could help pay the debt of those nations unable to meet the debt. This payment could come in the form of natural resources, products produced by the nation in debt or human services.

As a result, the dignity and self-esteem of the individual immigrant is maintained. The exploitation of immigrants traveling in secret to get into America through the underground and black market railroad system ends. America gains more control over criminal activity and identifies joint international programs to control migration. And the American citizen no longer feels abused by the economic strain caused by uncontrolled, undocumented citizens of foreign countries.
