Rule of the Majority

Share

When President Clinton was elected, I didn’t file a restraining order to keep him from assuming the office. I also do not smoke in nonsmoking restaurants. I didn’t feel Clinton was an appropriate candidate and I enjoy having a cigarette after a meal; I also feel my views must give way to the majority for our system to function.

We all have a right to our opinions, but when the majority of citizens vote for Proposition 187, Measure A or even against Proposition 188, it is time for we who lose to accept the will of the majority.

As a Marine, I spent 20 years defending majority decisions and Presidents who didn’t always meet my standards. I lost a job I loved last year because of a majority budgetary decision that I felt was poorly researched; I didn’t sue. In the last 200 years or so, we have been trying to create a system that is fair; I don’t think it is perfect, but it is based on majority rules.
