Nebraska, Penn State Remain 1-2 : College football: Alabama falls from third to sixth in final regular-season poll after losing to Florida.

Nebraska and Penn State, the only undefeated, untied teams in Division I-A, remained 1-2 Sunday in the final regular-season Associated Press college football poll.

The national championship will be decided in the bowls, in which Nebraska (12-0) plays No. 3 Miami in the Orange Bowl and Penn State (11-0) faces No. 12 Oregon in the Rose Bowl.

The Cornhuskers received 38 first-place votes and 1,526 points from the AP media panel. The Nittany Lions got 24 firsts and 1,511 points.

Nebraska and Penn State also are 1-2 in the USA Today-CNN coaches’ poll.

Alabama fell out of title contention Saturday after losing to Florida, 24-23, in the Southeastern Conference championship game. The Crimson Tide (11-1) dropped from third to sixth in the AP rankings, while Florida (10-1-1) rose from sixth to fifth.

The SEC game was the only one involving ranked teams on the final weekend of the regular season.

Florida’s victory sends the Gators to the Sugar Bowl. They will play a rematch against No. 7 Florida State (9-1-1). The arch-rivals tied, 31-31, on Nov. 26.

Alabama will play No. 13 Ohio State in the Citrus Bowl.

The Tide’s loss boosted Miami (10-1) to No. 3 and Colorado (10-1) to No. 4 in the AP poll. Colorado meets unranked Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl.

Rounding out the top 10 are No. 8 Texas A&M; (10-0-1), No. 9 Auburn (9-1-1) and No. 10 Colorado State (10-1). Texas A&M; and Auburn are barred from postseason play because of NCAA probation.

USC is ranked 21st.
