Share

A 15-year-old boy was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of attempted burglary and car theft after a chase, authorities said.

Police received a call at 3:30 a.m. from a resident in the 10300 block of Calle Madero, reporting a suspicious-looking vehicle in the area. A garage door was later found to have been forced open, authorities said.

As officers approached the car, which had been stolen in Santa Ana, the occupants fled at speeds of up to 90 m.p.h., said Lt. Larry Griswold. After the car spun out and was blocked by patrol vehicles, the three occupants ran, police said.

The driver was caught by a police dog and arrested on suspicion of auto theft, burglary and assault with a deadly weapon and taken to Orange County Juvenile Hall. The two others escaped.

At 8:30 a.m., Santa Ana police said they were informed by residents of Gunther Street, where the car was taken and where the arrested teen-ager lived, that two people were hiding in the bushes at the nearby intersection of 1st and Jackson streets. The officers found the pair and held them until Fountain Valley police arrived.

Santa Ana Lt. Dave Petko said that at the request of the Fountain Valley officers, a 15-year-old juvenile and a 28-year-old man were fingerprinted, photographed and then released.
