Man Charged in Stalking, Stabbing of Ex-Girlfriend

A Canoga Park man was charged with attempted murder and stalking Tuesday in the stabbing of his ex-girlfriend, a woman he shot in 1991, authorities said.

Ronald Dale Harden, 54, was arrested Saturday after allegedly chasing Diane Pierce-Hamrick, 49, and stabbing her several times in front of her Canoga Park apartment, said Los Angeles Deputy Dist. Atty. Robert Cohen.

Pierce-Hamrick was recovering from her injuries at a local hospital, police said.

Cohen said Harden was charged with stalking because “he had been hanging around and bugging her since he got out of prison (for shooting her). She apparently didn’t want him around.”

Pierce-Hamrick and Harden lived together for 20 years before they broke up in 1991, family and friends said. Harden shot Pierce-Hamrick during a jealous rage and was convicted of the crime that same year, police said.

“He kept trying to get her to continue the relationship as it was before and she really didn’t want to,” said Cohen.

Harden is being held in lieu of $800,000 bail at Los Angeles County Jail, Cohen said.
