‘Provisional’ Ballots

Share

I am responding to the letter from Christopher Ward (Dec. 5) regarding “widespread voter fraud” allegations. I do not believe Ward’s vote was counted and it certainly cannot be considered as “fraud.”

My instructions as a precinct officer were that if a potential voter’s name does not appear in our records, we issue a ballot in an envelope marked “Provisional.” The voter then signs the envelope, not the record book.

“Provisional envelopes” are submitted to the registrar of voters for checking. If they find no proof of prior registration, these ballots are destroyed and are not a part of the total count. I have been a precinct officer for over 10 years and have never seen any evidence of fraud--in this last election or any other.
