IRVINE : Superintendent Decision Delayed
The school board agreed Tuesday night to wait until January to decide whether to appoint a new superintendent from candidates within the district or launch an outside search.
The illness of one Irvine Unified School District trustee forced the board to cancel interviews with two Irvine deputy superintendents, both candidates for the job.
The board has scheduled a special meeting for Monday to discuss the replacement of former Supt. David E. Brown, who left in October to head the Napa Valley Unified School District.
Brown joined the school district in 1988, replacing founding Irvine Unified Supt. A. Stanley Corey. Deputy Supt. Susan Long and Paul Reed are candidates for the district’s top job.
The school board has meetings scheduled for Jan. 3 and 17, but trustees have not decided at which meeting a decision will be made.
The special meeting Monday will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a public discussion of the possible effects of the county’s investment losses on the school district.
