CANOGA PARK : Video Distributor Ordered to Give $10,000 to Shelter

Share

A video distribution company was ordered Friday to contribute $10,000 to a shelter for runaways and former prostitutes and banned from disseminating obscene materials.

Los Angeles Municipal Court Commissioner Barry Kohn imposed the sentence on Fantastic Pictures Inc. after its attorneys entered a no-contest plea to a criminal charge growing out of the firm’s direct-mail videocassette business.

Kohn also placed the company on two years summary probation and banned it from disseminating materials depicting a wide range of sex acts, including rape, bestiality, sex with minors, sexual torture and murder for sexual gratification. All are illegal under state obscenity laws.

The donation to Children of the Night, a San Fernando Valley-based nonprofit organization, is to be made in two $5,000 payments next year, according to Deputy City Atty. Deborah Sanchez.
