Flight Schedules Shuffled in Wake of Icy Flying Ban: American, Continental and Trans World airlines suspended some commuter flights to comply with a government ban on flying European-made ATR aircraft in icy weather. AMR Corp.’s American Eagle unit, the largest operator of ATR aircraft in the country, temporarily canceled all operations into and out of Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. It plans to restore service in two steps, beginning Dec. 15. TWA’s Trans World Express Inc. canceled all ATR service at New York City’s John F. Kennedy airport for 72 hours. Continental has canceled some ATR flights out of Newark, N.J., including service to Providence, R.I. The cancellations follow the ban issued Friday by the Federal Aviation Administration. The ATR is the type of plane involved in the Oct. 31 crash of an American Eagle flight in Indiana in which all 68 passengers were killed.
