A set of lights and moving horses complemented the decorations on the yacht Heaven Can Wait, which won first place in the Channel Islands Harbor Parade of Lights sweepstakes category, officials announced.
Keeping with the theme “Over the river and through the stream to grandmother’s house we go,” Robert Brisbane decorated his yacht with an elaborate scene that included a grandmother atop the deck of his vessel.
Organizers said more than 30,000 people attended the 29th annual floating parade Saturday in the Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard.
Other winners included the yacht Whatever IV, which took top honors in both the people’s choice and individual categories.
The Chanson Blanc, owned by Coast Chandlery & Pacific Currents Sailing Club, won first place in the commercial category, while Hard on the Wind, owned by the Bahia Cabrillo Yacht Club, took top prize in the yacht club category.
Runners-up included the vessel Serenity, owned by Michael Frakes, second place in the individual category, and the Runaway, owned by Gordon Cornett, third prize.
In the commercial category, the sailing vessel Poco Mas, owned by Syvia Olson of the United States Power Squadron of Ventura County, took second place, and the Pacific Clipper, owned by Bruce Dexter, was third-place winner.
Second prize in the yacht club category went to Sheldon Deerlighter, owner of the C-Shel yacht, and third went to Allen L. Webber, who owns the ship Rapture.
