FORGET SOMETHING? You think the county has money troubles . . . with a new tax season coming up, state officials say about 50,000 here have yet to file a 1993 state tax form. The state Franchise Tax Board is sending letters reminding all of them it’s one of those things you have to do. . . . If you’re delinquent, you’ve got 30 days to file or explain why not. Otherwise, you pay minimum penalties of $114. Says spokesman Jim Shepherd: “Many filed federal returns, but forgot Number Two.”

CHANGE ACT II? Early last week--before the fund crisis--local business leaders unveiled a new video by the Orange County Chamber of Commerce & Industry extolling the county’s virtues. It was to be an aid in recruiting companies from elsewhere to move their headquarters or build new offices in the county. . . . Title of the tape: “Orange County--Positioned for Profit and Growth.” Undeterred, the chamber plans on using the video.

COLDER CRISIS: Homeless people aren’t quite breaking down the doors to get in the two National Guard armories set up for them in Fullerton and Santa Ana. Each averages about 60 people a night--about half what they can take. But Judy Kampmann of Shelter for the Homeless, which operates the armories for the county, is confident they’ll fill soon. . . . “It always takes people awhile to feel comfortable going there,” she says. “We’d love to see them full.”

THIS IS NO GAME: Leo Holzer, owner of Aurora Restaurant on Euclid Avenue in Fullerton, says he thought about closing today. A small army of animal rights activists plan to camp at its lunch door to protest his serving “game meat” such as elk and alligator. But Holzer says too many regular customers urged him to stay open. . . . Holzer considers the protest unfair, but the native of Switzerland adds: “This is America. That’s what makes it a great country, isn’t it?”
