Former Angel and Kansas City Royal first baseman Willie Mays Aikens on Monday was sentenced to 20 years and eight months in prison without parole. U.S. District Judge Dean Whipple also ordered him to pay an $18,000 fine.

Aikens, 40, was convicted Aug. 16 of four counts of crack cocaine distribution and one count of use of a firearm during drug trafficking. He later pleaded guilty to bribery for offering $100 to a drug-testing official to submit a false urine specimen.

In the drug case, Aikens was convicted of selling 63 grams of crack to an undercover police officer in January and February of 1984.

Aikens’ attorney contended his client was entrapped by the undercover officer. But prosecutors argued Aikens’ home was full of the equipment necessary to cook crack and noted the officer was able to buy crack on four different occasions.
