3 Supervisors Giving Raises to Charities

Getting into the holiday spirit, the majority of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors said Thursday they would donate their new $3,000 raises to charities.
The Board of Supervisors salaries are tied to those of Superior Court judges, which are scheduled to be increased 3% to $107,000 starting Jan. 1.
As they did last year, Supervisors Gloria Molina, Mike Antonovich and Yvonne Brathwaite Burke said they will donate their pay increases to several local charities. Supervisor Deane Dana, who gave away his annual pay raise last year, could not be reached for comment Thursday on what he intends to do with the latest salary increase.
Newly elected Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, who campaigned on a pledge to bring fiscal conservatism to the Hall of Administration, has not decided whether he will accept the raise.
“He will decide before it takes effect,” said Joel Bellman, a Yaroslavsky spokesman. As a City Council member last year, Yaroslavsky gave away a raise to several charities.
