OXNARD : School Trustees to Meet on Campuses

Share

In an attempt to increase parents’ involvement in school issues, the Oxnard School District Board of Trustees has agreed to hold four of its next 12 meetings at school sites across the city.

The board, which voted unanimously for the project Wednesday, will have its first meeting at a school as early as February, said district Supt. Bernard Korenstein.

Although it will cost $160 each time they move microphones and other electronic equipment from the district office in downtown Oxnard to the school sites, the effort is worthwhile, Korenstein said.

“A large number of people have shown an interest in knowing what is going on in the district and the schools. However, it’s not always convenient for them to come to our office,” he said. “So we thought, ‘Why not bring the meeting to the community?’ ”

Korenstein said the goal is to have the meetings at schools in different parts of the city. The schools will notify parents when the meetings are scheduled.

To facilitate parents’ attendance, the district plans to offer baby-sitting services.

Parents who need baby sitters must sign up in advance.
