* E.W. Swackhamer; Emmy-Nominated TV Director

E. W. Swackhamer, 67, director in television, film and theater. He began his entertainment career as an actor and stage director on and off Broadway and abroad. Moving into directing in legitimate theater, Swackhamer soon directed episodes of such popular television series as “M*A*S*H,” “L. A. Law,” “Murder, She Wrote,” “Bewitched,” “I Dream of Jeannie” and “The Partridge Family.” He earned an Emmy nomination for his work on “The Dain Curse,” which starred James Coburn. He directed comedian Bill Cosby’s first feature film, “Man and Boy,” in 1972. Of 27 television pilots that he directed, 18 became prime-time series, including “Eight Is Enough” and “Quincy.” On Dec. 5 in Berlin of a ruptured aortic aneurysm.
