Plasma and Materials Technologies Inc. has named John W. LaValle vice president of finance and administration.

Prior to joining PMT, LaValle was vice president and chief financial officer at Superconductor Technologies Inc. in Santa Barbara.

Chatsworth-based PMT makes semiconductor manufacturing equipment.

* Jan Sobel has been named 1995 president of the Southern California Assn. of Chamber of Commerce Executives. Sobel remains CEO of the Encino Chamber of Commerce.

Also, Nancy Hoffman of the Mid-San Fernando Valley Chamber of Commerce was named the association’s 1995 secretary, and Evia Phillips of the Woodland Hills Chamber of Commerce was named one of its 1995 vice presidents.

The Southern California Assn. of Chamber of Commerce Executives is a professional development group that includes executives from 100 chambers in the region.

* An Encino stockbroker received a one-month suspension from the National Assn. of Securities Dealers and a $5,000 fine, the NASD said.

Robert Alan Grunburg received the sanctions after allegedly approving two newspaper ads that contained misleading or exaggerated statements concerning the ranking of mutual funds. Grunburg and another broker also failed to file the ads with the NASD within the required 10-day limit, the NASD said.

Before resuming associations with any NASD member, Grunburg must requalify by examination.
