THOUSAND OAKS : Holiday Trees to Be Recycled at 6 Sites

Share

Starting Dec. 26, residents who want to recycle their Christmas trees can do so at six Thousand Oaks locations.

For those who would rather keep the tree around for a while, the city will accept trees until Jan. 8.

The six locations are Borchard Park Service Center, 250 Reino Road, Newbury Park; Triunfo Community Park, 980 Aranmoor Ave., Westlake Village; Cal Lutheran University, Mount Clef Boulevard and Olsen Road; Home Depot, 500 N. Ventu Park Road; Park & Ride at Janss Road and the Moorpark Freeway, and Park & Ride, Rancho Road at the Moorpark Freeway.

The city’s public works department asks that trees be stripped of all ornaments and tinsel and that nails and stands be removed. The trees will be hauled to the Calabasas landfill and turned into mulch to be used throughout the Conejo Valley.

Last year, residents recycled more than 13,000 noble and Douglas firs and pine trees, Mayor Jaime Zukowski said.

“When you recycle your Christmas tree, you are helping the environment by keeping a valuable resource out of the landfill,” she said.

Trees that are flocked, painted or fire-proofed will not be accepted.

For information, call the city’s Recycling Hotline at 449-SAVE.
