Countywide : Exhibit Offers Peek at Area’s Past
Orange County residents and visitors can glimpse the area’s ancient history at an exhibit of recently unearthed fossils on view at the Old Courthouse Museum through Jan. 13.
Included in the exhibit are the remains of marine animals like Waldo, a walrus-like animal dating back 8 million years, and precursors of the hippopotamus, sea cow, baleen whale and a basking shark.
Fossilized limbs and skulls of early mammals like elephants, camels and bison are also part of the exhibit.
Many of the specimens, primarily recovered during construction on the San Joaquin Hills and Foothill transportation corridors,
are on display for the first time,museum spokesman Marshall Duell said.
Admission to the exhibit is free, and the museum, at 211 W. Santa Ana Blvd., Santa Ana, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
