SAN CLEMENTE : Fee Waiver Denied for Rebuilding

Share

The City Council has decided not to waive $2,000 in building permit fees for a man whose house was severely damaged in a February, 1993, landslide along La Ventana.

The council voted unanimously last week against the waiver of the fee, which would have been the first such consideration granted by the city, planning officials said.

Peter Shikli, who is rebuilding his house at 2813 La Ventana, had first asked the city’s Community Development Department for the fee waiver, but staffers there said that they did not have the authority to decide.

A bluff west of La Ventana collapsed in February, 1993, sending tons of soil and debris onto Pacific Coast Highway. Four houses were lost in the landslide.

A $3.1-million project to shore up the bluff and clear the highway started in July.

It is scheduled to be finished at the end of next month.
