CONEJO VALLEY : Home Sales Rise 14% in November

Home sales in the Conejo Valley during November rose by 14% from last year, and condominium sales also increased substantially, according to figures released Tuesday.

Local realtors said the increase shows that the Thousand Oaks area is recovering from the recent recession.

“I think it shows an ongoing trend toward economic good times as far as the real estate market is concerned,” said Gene Baird, president of the Conejo Valley Assn. of Realtors, which compiled the statistics. “It makes us optimistic about 1995.”

Baird said the market has recently been dominated by young first-time buyers taking advantage of low interest rates, with 200 homes and 59 condominiums sold in November.

He said these buyers helped bring down the median sales price for a single-family home, which dropped from $268,901 in November, 1993, to $263,363 last month.

Baird said he expects to see home sales continue to rise, as has occurred for the past two years.

In November, 1993, realtors sold 175 single-family homes and 35 condominiums in the Conejo Valley, the report said.
