A $40-million cold storage and distribution facility in the harbor area is scheduled to receive its first shipload of frozen meats and vegetables Tuesday.

Konoike-Pacific California Inc., commonly known as K-Pac, began construction a year ago on the 220,000-square-foot facility on Coil Avenue within the Alameda Corridor. The plant is owned equally by U.S. and Japanese interests.

Steven C. Hair, vice president and general manager of K-Pac, said 60% of the facility’s business will be vegetables, fruits and frozen products from Mexico and the United States, along with bakery goods and deli meats.
