VAN NUYS — A 16-year-old boy was fatally shot Thursday in front of his twin brother in an apparent gang-related killing in Van Nuys, police said.
Sandro Navarro died shortly after 12:30 a.m. after a confrontation in the 7100 block of Valjean Avenue near Sherman Way, Los Angeles police said. Navarro had apparently been standing with a group of friends, including his brother, when he got into a fight with two other men.
One of the men drew a gun and shot Navarro in the chest, police said. Navarro was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
In another gang-related incident in Panorama City, a youth was shot four times in the shoulder Tuesday night in the 7900 block of Brimfield Avenue, police said. The youth was taken to a hospital in satisfactory condition.
Los Angeles police this week maintained that a 14-month-old peace treaty involving Latino gangs is still in effect in the San Fernando Valley.
