Immigrant Scam Operator Gets 2nd Jail Term

An Alhambra woman previously convicted of running a fraudulent immigration services business was sentenced Thursday to three years in County Jail for violating probation by resuming the scam, authorities said.
Lo-Li V. Gregor, 48, ran a business that sold Chinese immigrants documents that purported to be green cards and work visas, according to Los Angeles Deputy City Atty. Greg Parham. But those documents were worthless, Parham said.
Gregor advertised her services in the local Chinese-language press and had offices in Alhambra and Los Angeles.
In 1993, Gregor was sentenced to one year in jail after being convicted of immigration fraud. Authorities said she was released after serving four months because of overcrowding at the jail.
Although Gregor’s probation required that she refrain from working as an immigration consultant, prosecutors claimed that shortly after her release Gregor again began advertising her business.
Authorities said document fraud is a significant problem in immigrant communities because of ignorance about U.S. laws.
