Threatt May Have Stress Fracture That Could Keep Him Out 6 Weeks

Sedale Threatt, the Lakers’ most consistent player in the eyes of Coach Del Harris and their top reserve, appears to have suffered a stress fracture in his right foot that could sideline him four to six weeks and leave the team without a backup point guard.

Additional tests will be be done Monday, but trainer Gary Vitti said after Friday’s 127-112 victory at America West Arena that Threatt has a “probable” stress fracture that developed within the last week or so. Threatt played two minutes against the Phoenix Suns, all in the second quarter.

“It was quite obvious Sedale was injured,” Harris said. “Technically, he could play. But if you watched him as closely as I did in the two minutes when I gave Nick (Van Exel) a break, Sedale was hurt. He was hurting (Thursday) night. He was capable of playing, but I wanted it to be only a have-to situation.”

If the Lakers put Threatt on the injured list, which appears likely, any free-agent replacement would have to be signed for the rest of the season. Ten-day contracts can be used until Jan. 10.
