Larry Owen, a former director of NBC’s “Today” show, died Tuesday of leukemia, the network reported from Burbank. He was 69.

After World War II, Owen was hired as a page at NBC’s New York headquarters. He became stage manager for many of NBC’s variety shows before he was promoted to associate director for the “Today” show in the 1960s. He was the show’s director during the late 1960s and early ‘70s.

After leaving the “Today” staff in the mid-1970s, Owen produced segments for NBC’s evening newscast out of Burbank. He retired 10 years ago.
